Finals are finally here and I have attempted to throw on the wheel for my project. I would say that I have a 50-50 chance of it exploding since my last two both went in and one blew up and the other one didn't. I chose to throw on the wheel for my final because I actually kind of like to throw on the wheel because you decide if the sides are gonna be the same or not. You also get to choose the dimensions of the walls like how thick they are gonna be or if your gonna make a bowl, pot, or anything like that. It's also quite fast to get done and look after so I said why not.
Wheel throwing started off with us taking a bunch of clay and wedging it (of course). Then, we would put it on the wheel and start spinning and moving it around to make different shapes. Now sometimes when your walls are too big or thick, they will possibly explode. Well, that's exactly what one of mine did. Of course, I am throwing on the wheel for my final so I guess I have a 50% chance of it exploding. Throwing on the wheel really makes us be gentle with modling the clay into certain shapes we want because just the smallest or fast movement can screw it all up. Wheel throwing takes alot of patience and practice to master.
This was the last project I finished(technically). So for this project we had to make 5 different sides and slab them together to make a box or any shape that has sides. My walls were 4.5 inches long and wide. This project helped us with learning how to put pieces of clay walls together by slipping and scoring.
This project was a little different. For this project, we had to make a coil pot. Well, I went out of the ordinary and put a small Cat in the Hat figure on top of the pot which was made with slipping and scoring (which is also the hat from cat in the hat). This project taught us to figure out different ways to make pots out of coils of clay. As you could see, my second design was two snakes "coiling" around eachother and meeting at the top.
For this project, We had to make 3 types of cups or shapes that could go together. So, I created a ghost coffee cup set of three cups. This project introduced to us slipping and scoring, and creativity on putting three things together and making us think of different ways for us to combine three things we make into one.
